Systematic Approach
Knowledge Quest Academy employs a systematic approach to its programs. Below is a list of the components we implement to ensure success and quality.

Leadership Development

Knowledge Quest Academy has highly trained and experienced leadership staff that assists in all aspects of the program operation. Our leaders understand the nature of an at-risk youth and rely on resident experts to continuously assess their learning environment to provide effective instructional delivery.

Curriculum and Instruction

The curriculum and instruction for all certificate programs offered to at-risk youth are customized to fit the diverse needs of each individual. The Alternative Education Program provides individualized plans that incorporate academic, behavioral, life skills, community involvement, and transitional goals.

These aspects are customized based on the individuals assessed needs and implemented into the curriculum. Our innovative approach to curriculum delivery is provided in a collaborative environment with low student to teacher ratios. The curriculum is built with skills that build time management, social intelligence, computer skills, resume writing, and interviewing skills to name a few.

The leadership staff is always available to coach and provide transitional assistance for all students exiting the program. In order for alternative learners to experience a sense of academic accomplishment, they must learn in an environment that sufficiently supports their intellectual growth.

KQA pedagogy focuses on a four-tier approach to Academic Excellence through implementation. These tiers include: Rigor, Relevance and Relationships, Paideia Model, Differentiated Instruction and Teaching Across-the-Curriculum. We employ qualified educators who motivate students to succeed at a pace and level appropriate for each student.

Certified Mobile Testing Center

Knowledge Quest Education is a Certified Mobile Testing center by Prometric. The ability to provide Nationally Recognized Certification exams on-site at Schools and Juvenile facilities provides our students the ability to convert the skills provided in our classroom setting into Nationally Recognized certifications focused on Hard Skills and jobs. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that at the completion of our program participants can become productive member of society with certification that will allow our youth to support themselves and their families with job opportunities and certification that are needed in our local communities

Special Education and Individual Education Plans (IEP)

KContent delivery for special-education students and/or students on an IEP can be modified quickly, efficiently, and appropriately by the teacher. Students can work on content by the lesson or the course and can be supported with as many remediation exercises and lesson resets as warranted by the IEP and in the best interest of individual student learning.

Teachers can assign supplemental reading material that correlates to the lesson objectives and reinforces the student comprehension and understanding of a particular lesson. Teachers can also create their own assessments based on course content or use the prescribed assessments provided for each course.

Assessments can easily be administered verbally, in writing, and at any pace the teacher finds appropriate based on the student’s disability. Content delivery can be Web-based, print-based, or a combination of both. Page interface, including font size can be adjusted to accommodate individual special needs students.

Student Assessment

As part of our entry and intake process, all students are subjected to a pre-assessment in their professional development course.

This allows for benchmark settings, in addition, the professional development course also allows the mentor to conduct an entry interview and begin the Individual Learning Plan process.

Students are re-assessed after completion of each course and screened for gains or losses. The results will determine the instructor’s next course of action.

Behavior Management

AKQA is aware that many factors contribute to the academic receding of the student’s life. As a result, we implement a rigorous behavioral component to address this need.

Our components include:
Transitional Planning and Support

Knowledge Quest Academy has developed various resources that support the student’s transition from the program. Based on the exemplary practices of NAEA, KQA trains its staff to appropriately assess the student for the transitional setting that best supports their initiatives. The systematic approach takes into consideration the grades, behavior, ILP goals and attained skills.

Students are also coached to prepare for their transitional interview. This process engages the student in the transitional process and emphasizes the importance of attaining acceptance to the new setting through personal interview. The receiving program is encouraged to supply a representative.

Parent/Guardian Involvement

Knowledge Quest Academy actively encourages the involvement of parents/ guardians in all aspects of the program. It is imperative that at-risk youth have the support from parents/guardians throughout the assessment, program, and transitional phases of the students’ educational journey.

Parents are also engaged through surveys and continuous correspondence. Parents also receive a progress report every three weeks.

Collaboration of Stakeholders

Knowledge Quest Academy promotes partnerships between students, staff, parents, community, and local employers. The collaboration of all stakeholders ensures the overall success of the individual throughout their pre-assessment, program duration, post-assessment, and transitional phases.

Knowledge Quest Academy has incorporated program evaluation methods that begin with pre-assessment and help develop the individualization of each students program based on their specific needs. During the course of this phase many variables are assessed to find the best fit for each student. Students are provided with measurable goals, and leadership staff is involved on a continuous basis throughout the program.

Upon completion of the program and end evaluation is conducted and determines the further needs and transitional goals for each student. In addition, all students will provide an evaluation of the instructional staff that helps Knowledge Quest Academy continuously receive feedback on our program.
